I want to start my own business but with the credit crunch is it the best time?

by: admin Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

I really want to start my own business up making personalised gift hampers like those in america (cant really find anything like it in the UK) and also wedding towel cakes, baby clothes bouquets etc etc. I just think it might be a bad time with the credit crunch.
My husband is very supportive but i dont want to let him down.
What do you think?

If you make sure you take all the advice that is available to you, go for it! I started my business last September, just as it all seemed to really blow up, then people started losing their jobs! As I offer a service to working people (I'm a dog walker) I was worried, but I'm not doing too badly.

Do plenty of research, and get in touch with Business Link, and your local job centre as they will give you some contacts which should help.

Good luck!

IF you have researched your market, and determined that there will be a demand for the product, then it might be worth taking a chance. Business will not grind to a halt even in a recession.

Now is a great time to start up a business - IF you get the fundamentals right, do your marketing properly, and are prepared to work your socks off for the next few year.

Get good advice, make use of every opportunity out there, and above all, talk to other business owners. Make use of the networking opportunities to keep you motivated during the times when it gets hard (and it will…). And remember to have fun.
