money hasn't been money for some time, it's all computer data generally.

The money is lost because you give someone $1000, they pay you back $1600 after interest. But, if they can't pay, you may only get half or less leaving you out of pocket meaning you can't then pay your bills and creates a circle of mounting debt.

the people who have yet to lose their jobs are paying still paying their mortgages to the banks who have tightened up on giving money out,

The banks are taking in more then they are giving out thus lowering the amount of money.

this is happening in tandem with people being afraid to spend the money they have so less money is going into the economy which just hurts it more beacuse if money isn't going into the stores, then the stores have to cut employees thus leaving more people without money.

its all a giant snowball caused by the credit crisis

This is the fallacy. The money never actually existed. It was only numbers in a computer, that goes up and down, but is never really printed into real money.

The losses you speak of are merely ink on on paper, or pixels on a computer monitor, not actual printed money. The money that's out there is in people pockets, put under their mattresses and not to purchase goods and services - or in other words not circulating through the economy like it should. like someone already touched on, by everyone doing this creates such a huge impact on how this economy works. should everyone go and spend as they did prior to all this mess, the economy would be flowing. there is more than enough money out there to get this economy back in gear. so go out with $10, spend $8 and keep $2.
