why do banks give cash prizes with the Credit Crunch around?

i went to my bank today…saw a leaflet that if you tell them what your new years resolution is you may have a chance of winning £5000…
i thought they had money problems with the credit crunch? so why are they giving away money on competitions?

To attract new customers for their money, even if they get 1 new customers it'll pay off in the long-term, you have to be able to see long-term in business not short term
