Given the seemingly uncertainty in equities generally, what do you think are good areas to buy into at present
Lots of under valued companies, its a great time to buy, but its quite another to pick which companies.
In times like these certain areas are said to be good risks, but i am still not sure what to buy into.
I would CHECK on specific:
utilities (an essential service and as they're monopolies they have a built-in profit under the law)
energy Companies
essential foods (not candy or such and not grocery stores)

I am seeing a variety of areas of opportunity throughout the market, and am being able to purchase companies at prices that I would not have thought I would have been able to a few months ago. Take some time to check out my blog, to which I have included the link, as it has my portfolio of 18 stocks, as well as a short write-up on each holding as to why I believe they present some of the best potential. This may give you a great place to start your research, as it highlights a lot of the important factors of each company. While you're there, vote in my polls, I'm trying to get an idea of what others are thinking (it'll give you an idea of what people are thinking as well). Just a thought, I hope it gives you some ideas.
Best of luck!

nycigllc has a well though out portfolio. Amedsys is one that I am also attracted to. But cuts in medicare might affect it adversely. One strategy worth considering is not to buy the beaten down stocks but instead to buy the stocks that are not beaten down. If a stock can act strong in this market, there might very well be a reason. IBKR is such a one. USB another. A bank stock no less. CHK is acted rather strong. And of course AMED. Among the really down trodden worth consideration are GRMN, LECO, GGG, MMM.
ZOLT: I have been watching this stock for years. The potential is there. Carbon Fiber is a growth area not to be ignored. ZOLT however has a problem. The government is buying fiber from a Japanese company that stole ZOLT's patens on the fiber. (actually not the government but one of there pet aircraft mfg) ZOLT took the case to court and the court said there was nothing they could do. Has to do with the use of the fibers in combat aircraft.
Indeed the fibers are being used by Vesta Wind Systems to manufacture wind turbine blades. I think that is their biggest contract to date. I believe nycigllc said ZOLT is manufacturing the blades. No they are supplying the fibers. Actually, I can see entire car bodies being made out of the fibers eventually, but it takes the car manufactures a while to catch on. I think it might be sort of labor intensive which would certainly be a disencentive for car manufactures except maybe Rolls Royce and Farrari.
